Its center is Ugoofaaru with 1,200 inhabitants, and its largest city is Alifushi, a city with about 2,300 inhabitants, which is notable for the fact that the best traditional Maldivian boats, the dhoni, are made here.

Diving: Raa Atoll aka North Maalhosmadulu. Divers can reach the dive sites mainly by boats that stay out in the ocean for several days at a time. You can dive almost all year round, with the exception of June, because then the waves are quite strong. In the dive sites of Raa Atoll, you can often see Napoleon fish, stingrays, unicorn fish, sailfish, or even lion fish. Tuna and barracuda are particularly common among larger fish.
